Movie Review preview

1.The main characters I expect to see in this movie are Captain Philips, the Somali pirate captain, and the crews of the pirate ships and the Maersk ship.
2. I expect the plot to stick very closely to the actual events, so it will probably have the Maersk supply ship heading for somewhere in Africa, but be intercepted by pirates. I think it will then show the struggle of the crew and captain Philips to stay alive and trick the pirates into getting off the ship. At some point, the crew will probably capture the Somalian captain, just like in real events, and attempt to exchange captain Philips for the pirate captain, but will be tricked by the pirates into giving the pirate captain back without exchanging captain Philips.
3. This story was important because it highlighted the brave actions of the crew and Captain Philips in their attempts to combat the pirates.
4. The pirates try to take the ship because the ship has lots of valuable materials and has a lot of money that the pirates can bring to their boss.

1. Tom Hanks, Barkhad Abdi, Faysal Ahmed, Catherine Keener, Michael Chernus.
2. PG-13
3. Paul Greengrass
4. Michael de Luca, Scott Rudin, Dana Brunetti
5. BAFTA award for best actor in a supporting role, Writers of America award for best adapted screenplay.
6. 55 million dollars

Long response:

Only about 52% of high school students directly enrolled into college in 2016. It is expected that with the new plan, that number should shoot up to 60% by 2030. According to the article, students who don't directly enroll in college are far less likely to earn a degree than those who enroll directly from high school. The article cited that there were 70% in Massachusetts and 60% in California. Senator Paredes hopes to push the 60x30TX plan, which states that the goal is to get 60% of students enrolling in college by 2030. I definitely think college is important and it is a key ingredient in making you more educated and able to succeed in life. Yes, I plan to directly enroll into college. I think that the push to get more students into college is effecting some of the poorer areas because they are getting motivated to go to college. I think it is possible to have a comfortable life without a college degree, but it's a lot harder to get a comfortable life without a college degree. Workforce certifications are equally as important in society. Yes, but I think many jobs that don't require a college degree aren't as good.

Captain Philips review

Captain Phillips really rocked the boat

Captain Phillips tells the true story of the hijacking of a Maersk cargo ship by Somali pirates, and the crew's struggle to survive and save their Captain, Richard Phillips(Tom Hanks), who was held hostage by the pirates. The movie tells this story from two perspectives, mostly centering around the two captains, Phillips, and Abduwali Muse(Barkhad Abdi), the captain of the Somali pirates. At the beginning of the movie, the cargo ship embarks on a journey across the Indian ocean, headed for Africa. After going too close to the Somalian coastline, the ship is picked up by pirates, who track down the ship and board it, despite the crews' many attempts to deter the pirates. After boarding, the pirates capture Captain Phillips, who misleads them in their search to find the rest of the crew. The crew, lead by Phillips' second in command Shane Murphy(Michael Chernus), and John Cronan(Chris Mulkey), set traps such as putting glass on the floor, and evade capture by the pirates with their knowledge of the ship. The crew even injures Hufan(Isaak Farah Samatar), one of the pirates, who stepped on the glass barefoot. The crew manage to capture the Somali captain, Abduwali Muse, and hold him hostage in exchange for Captain Phillips. The Somali pirates trick the crew, however, and make off with Muse and Phillips in a small lifeboat. The lifeboat is tracked down by the U.S. Coast Guard, who employ Navy Seal snipers to take out the pirates. A possible theme of this movie is to "never give up" because despite overwhelming odds, Captain Phillips held out hope and ended up being rescued when it looked like he wasn't going to survive. I think the audience demographic of this movie would probably be somewhere in between the 15-50 year old range. The reason the range is so large is because this movie really has elements that every age demographic can enjoy. In my opinion, Captain Phillips is a great movie. The tension is palpable throughout, and really keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. The plot is even cooler when you consider the fact that this movie is based off of real events, and the ensemble effort of the cast was great because you could see the chemistry between Hanks and Abdi, and you could see their similarities as leaders, and this allowed you to sympathize with and understand both sides of the story. I give Captain Phillips an 8/10 for being a really great engaging movie.
